Durell Tharpe, founder of Heritage Pest Control, started work as a pest control tech in the early 1990’s. I became his wife soon after and we began our family which grew from just the two of us to five quickly. After working for different pest control companies, Durell decided to venture out with the idea that if he could do pest control for others, he could do it for himself.

 

In 2002, he acquired the necessary licensing and established Heritage Pest Control. I answered the phone and assisted while he handled services. We stayed busy growing our family, growing the business, and volunteering at church. Durell enjoyed coaching football when the boys became old enough, and he loved preaching and teaching in churches and jails. He enjoyed sharing his faith whether one on one in a duck blind, on a turkey hunt, or on a fishing trip.  More years passed and our family grew again with our fourth child.  Durell continued to work hard, spending lots of time with our children and friends. Life was busy and sweet.

 

In 2015, we were faced with whether to continue the family business or not with Durell’s passing from an auto accident. My oldest son, Matthew stepped up and decided to continue on.  Mr. Buford Whitaker joined Heritage for a time to train Matthew to acquire his operator's license in pest control and termite as well. Caleb and Jacob, did services, helped in the office, and whatever else was needed. Our youngest, Elise, helped with the office work, too.  

 

Our family has continued to serve our customers since its establishment by Durell in November of 2002. Many years, much loyalty, and care have passed between our family and our customer’s families. We are blessed and thankful to be Heritage Pest Control. Our family has been and continues to be grateful for the opportunities to serve your family’s pest control needs.
